Safe Kids Week


Educational program provided nationwide during the first week of May each year.
• Themes vary each year according to different childhood injury categories.
• Safe Kids of Western Massachusetts coordinates public education programs and health fairs based on the annual theme.

Safe Kids Helmet Program

Educates children on bike safety through mobile safety town programs that check for proper helmet fit and allow children to practice skills in a safe setting.
• Provides helmets to children in need as available.
• Collaborates with Baystate Emergency Departments to replace helmets of children who have been in a crash.

• Provides ski safety education and discounted ski helmets to area ski programs.

Kids Can’t Fly

Provides education on window safety.
• Collaborates with community agencies to provide window guards to families of children at high-risk for window falls.
• Partners with Baystate Trauma Center to offer window guards to families of children who have fallen out of windows.

Holyoke Walks this Way


Collaborates with the City of Holyoke to provide a safer walking environment for children.
• Educate children on pedestrian safety through schools and other projects.
• Host International Walk to School Day in October.

Mobile Child Car Seat Checks in Western Massachusetts




• Teaches parents and caregivers to install car seats.
• Provided periodically throughout Western Massachusetts.

Child Car Seat Inspection Station

• Teaches parents and caregivers to correctly install car seats.
• Thursdays 9am-5pm in Springfield and the 2nd Wednesday of the month in Greenfield by appointment, call Baystate Health Link at 413-794-2255.
• Collaborates with area agencies to provide car seats to families in need.
